The Oresteia (the trilogy of plays which Agamemnon opens) was re-performed, imitated, and parodied extensively even in Classical Athens. The play is set in the aftermath of the Trojan War, and is one of the most theatrical of all Greek plays. A series of vivid images and striking coups de theatre serve to constantly shock and delight the audience. www.ucl.ac.uk/GrandLat/play.html Actors of Dionysus Bacchic Monday 21 & Tuesday 22 April A provocative update of Euripides' tragedy The Bacchae What happens when a charismatic figure arrives with a promise of fulfilment that brings both pleasure and pain? An aerial explosion of hidden desire, Bacchic fuses corde de lisse, music and physical theatre to probe the depths of ecstasy and question our faith in heroes. 'outstanding, exquisite, inventive......rare piece of theatre' The Stage - Must See
