Statement by José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, on the approval of the Treaty of Lisbon by the Luxembourg Parliament 29/05/2008
I would like to congratulate Luxembourg on the approval of the Treaty of Lisbon by the Parliament today. The new treaty has been endorsed by an overwhelming majority with support from across the political spectrum. I would like to thank the Luxembourg Government and Parliament for the support they have given to the treaty throughout the negotiations and ratification process. We now have fifteen member states that have completed the parliamentary process and I hope that the remaining member states will follow as soon as possible.
