NEWS RELEASE
PR 916 6 November 2006 For Immediate Release
Bright future for Brixham Library
Things are definitely on the up for Brixham Library with a new captain at the helm and the arrival of state-of-the-art games console equipment to entertain the younger residents.
Angie Weatherhead has been appointed as the new Branch Librarian for Brixham. She previously worked as training and information officer at Torbay Hospital and is an Associate Member of CILIP, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. She is also a Committee Member of their Public Libraries Group.
She said: "I am very pleased to be appointed as the new Librarian at Brixham Library and look forward to welcoming all Brixham's current and new borrowers in the coming months.
"Brixham Library offers a range of materials, suitable for all age ranges and abilities from paperback books to DVDs and music CDs, with free internet access for all members.
"We also have a regular programme of activities from music, rhythm and rhyme sessions for the under 3s to storytimes for the under 5s and two active adult reader groups."
Brixham Library has also taken receipt of a new XBox games console thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Brixham Library, a group set up 18 months ago by local residents to support the library. They have held monthly coffee mornings at the library, book sales, talks and raffles which have raised £1000 so far.

Cabinet Member Councillor Jeanette Richards, said: "I would like to congratulate the friends group for their efforts. The games console is already drawing more young people into the library and once they have played the games they are encouraged to borrow books that some of the games are based on, such as Lord of the Rings.
"Torbay Council's Library Services is always seeking ways to improve the quality of its service to customers. These include the recent introduction of a loyalty card which offers rewards to regular users of the library, including Brixham members."
Anyone who would like more information on how to join the Friends of Brixham Library can pick up a leaflet at Brixham Library or ask a member of staff. The joining fee is £5 per year which also entitles the member to 3 free reservations and free hire of a CD and video or DVD, plus a reduced entrance fee at friends' events.
