The E-POC III Conference The E-POC III conference has been organised to share the results of the E-POC-III Project with those working in the field of criminal justice all over the European Union. The E-POC software will be demonstrated and project partners will discuss experience gained during the testing phase. During the conference there is also time set aside for the presentation of other co-operative activities in the field of criminal justice. Finally, a discussion is foreseen on steps that must be taken to make co-operation in criminal justice matters all over the EU more efficient. The E-POC Initiative Today organised crime has become multinational phenomena, as crime networks move freely across borders to expand their criminal activities. To combat this trend, co-operation and an effective exchange of information between authorities responsible for carrying out investigations and prosecutions in the EU’s Member States are needed. The European Pool against Organised Crime (E-POC) was founded in 2002 for such a purpose. Eurojust has used this information system for judicial co-operation since October 2004. It facilitates the secure storage, management and analysis of case-related personal data and the sharing of information among National Members. It also promotes compliance with Eurojust data protection rules. The E-POC III Project The E-POC III is the third project to further develop the E-POC software. The project is led by Eurojust in collaboration with Italy, Slovenia, France, Poland, Romania and CM Sistemi SpA as project partners. In E-POC III, the mechanisms used to share information have been extended to support the exchange of structured data between different installations. This added functionality will allow information, e.g. structured case data, to be exchanged between different E-POC installations in the Member States and National Members at Eurojust. Furthermore, the concept of security classification levels has been introduced to the storage and exchange of information to ensure appropriate protection of data. The data scheme has been enlarged by the partners to allow for a structural storage of additional crime types. In addition, the analysis of crime is supported by a graphical representation.
